Dose, purity & honesty

Why we make no health claims for lactoferrin, what “high purity” and “single active, no fillers” actually mean, and how to compare lactoferrin supplements on facts instead of marketing.

Why we make no health claims

In the UK and EU, a food supplement can only state a health benefit if that specific claim has been officially authorised. Lactoferrin has no authorised health claims. So — legally, and honestly — we make none: no immune claims, no gut claims, no disease claims.

The Advertising Standards Authority actively rules against supplement brands that imply unauthorised or medicinal benefits. We would rather describe exactly what the product is than hint at something we can’t stand behind.

So what can honestly be said?

Plenty — as long as it is factual and verifiable rather than a benefit claim:

  • What it is — a naturally occurring iron-binding glycoprotein.
  • Where it’s from — bovine, sourced from cow’s milk.
  • The dose — 250mg per serving, printed plainly on the label.
  • The purity — high-purity, confirmed by testing.
  • The build — a single active ingredient, no fillers.
  • The proof — third-party tested, every batch, CoA on request.

None of those are health claims. They are simply true, checkable facts about the product.

What “high purity” means

Purity is about how much of what’s inside the capsule is actually intact lactoferrin — versus degraded protein or other material. “High purity” only means something if it is backed by testing: an independent lab confirming the lactoferrin’s identity and content. Without a test behind it, “high purity” is just a word on a label.

What “single active, no fillers” means

Many capsules are padded with bulking agents, flow agents, or a “proprietary blend” that conveniently hides the real dose. “Single active, no fillers” means the capsule contains only the active ingredient and the capsule shell — so the number on the label is the amount you actually take.

Ours is 250mg of lactoferrin plus a vegetarian HPMC capsule shell — and nothing else. No bulking agents, no blend, no padding.

How to compare lactoferrin honestly

Because nobody can legally compete on benefit claims, the only honest comparison is on the facts. Here is what to look for:

What to check Vitality Lactoferrin Typical retail brand
Lactoferrin per serving 250mg, clearly stated Often low or undisclosed
Fillers None — single active Often bulking agents
Purity High-purity glycoprotein Often unstated
Source disclosed Bovine, stated plainly Often vague
Dose disclosed Every mg on the label Often proprietary blend
Capsule shell Vegetarian HPMC Often gelatin
Third-party tested Every batch · ISO 17025 Rarely disclosed
Made in United Kingdom Often overseas

What third-party testing actually proves

Every batch is sent to an independent ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory before it ships. The lab confirms three things: lactoferrin identity (it is what it says it is), content (the 250mg is really there), and contaminant safety (heavy metals and microbial limits).

Important honesty point: a Certificate of Analysis proves the label is accurate. It does not prove a health benefit — nothing does, because no health claims are authorised. Testing means you can verify the product rather than take it on trust.

Red flags when buying lactoferrin

  • A “proprietary blend” that hides how much lactoferrin you actually get.
  • No dose in mg — or a dose given “per capsule” rather than per serving.
  • Health or benefit claims that sound impressive (and aren’t authorised).
  • No mention of third-party testing or a Certificate of Analysis.
  • The source (bovine / cow’s milk) not stated at all.

Marketing isn’t evidence

We compete on the things we can actually prove — dose, purity, a single active ingredient, and third-party testing — and we make no health claims for lactoferrin. This page is factual information to help you compare products, not medical advice.

Common questions

Why won’t you say what lactoferrin does?

Because no health claims are authorised for it in the UK or EU. We only state facts — what it is, its dose, its purity, and the testing.

Does third-party testing mean it “works”?

No. Testing confirms identity, purity and that the dose on the label is accurate. It is about honesty, not efficacy.

What exactly is in the Vitality product?

250mg of high-purity bovine lactoferrin per serving — a single active ingredient, no fillers — in a vegetarian capsule, third-party tested every batch and made in the UK.

Can I see the Certificate of Analysis?

Yes. Email us with the batch number from the base of your bottle and we’ll send the CoA.

Dose over marketing.
