Background Science

What is NAD+?

NAD+ is a coenzyme present in every living cell. It participates in hundreds of metabolic processes and is the subject of a substantial and growing body of peer-reviewed scientific research.

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is found across all forms of life. It exists in two forms — NAD+ (oxidised) and NADH (reduced) — and cycles between them as part of normal cellular metabolism.

Published research has documented that NAD+ levels decline with age in human tissue. This decline has been measured across multiple peer-reviewed studies and is one of the most reproduced findings in the longevity research field. The mechanisms by which NAD+ participates in cellular processes — including its role as a substrate for certain enzyme classes — are well established in the scientific literature.

Vitality Supplements formulates its products based on published peer-reviewed human research. We do not make claims about what our products do to the human body beyond what is permitted under UK food supplement regulations. The compositional information on this page describes the ingredients and what the published science says about them as compounds — not what our products are intended to do.

NMN
Nicotinamide Mononucleotide · β-NMN
Raise · NAD+ Precursor

NMN is a naturally occurring compound found in trace amounts in foods including edamame, broccoli, cucumber and avocado. Chemically, it is a nucleotide derived from ribose and nicotinamide. It is a biosynthetic precursor to NAD+ in the salvage pathway of NAD+ synthesis.

As a food supplement ingredient, NMN is permitted for sale in the United Kingdom. Vitality provides β-NMN at doses aligned with published peer-reviewed human research protocols, at greater than 99% purity verified by independent ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory testing on every production batch.

NMNH
Dihydronicotinamide Mononucleotide
Raise · Reduced NAD+ Precursor

NMNH is the reduced form of NMN — a structurally distinct compound in which the nicotinamide ring is in its reduced state. It is a subject of active scientific investigation and is distinct from NMN in its chemical structure and properties.

Vitality provides NMNH at 500mg per serving at greater than 99% purity, independently verified on every production batch by an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory. NMNH is a newer ingredient and the published human research base is less extensive than that for NMN.

TMG
Trimethylglycine · Betaine Anhydrous
Support · Methyl Donor

TMG (Trimethylglycine), also known as betaine, is a naturally occurring compound derived from choline. It is found in beetroot, spinach and quinoa. It functions as a methyl donor in the body's one-carbon metabolism pathway.

The inclusion of TMG alongside NMN is discussed in longevity research literature in the context of methylation balance. It is included in NMN Complete at 750mg per serving.

Pterostilbene
Stilbenoid Polyphenol · Blueberry-derived
Activate · Sirtuin-Pathway Polyphenol

Pterostilbene is a stilbenoid polyphenol found naturally in blueberries and grapes. It is structurally related to resveratrol but differs in that it has two methoxy groups rather than two hydroxyl groups — a modification associated with approximately 4x higher oral bioavailability compared to resveratrol in published pharmacokinetic studies.

Pterostilbene is included in NMN Complete at 50mg per serving as the sirtuin-pathway polyphenol in the formula.

Apigenin
Natural Flavonoid · Chamomile-derived
Protect · CD38 Inhibitor

Apigenin is a flavonoid found in chamomile, parsley and celery. It has been studied in published scientific literature as an inhibitor of CD38, an NAD+-consuming enzyme. CD38 expression is documented to increase with age in published research.

Apigenin is included in NMN Complete at 50mg per serving. It is the CD38 inhibitor component of the NMN Complete formula, included alongside the NAD+ precursor NMN.

Trans-Resveratrol
98% Trans-Isomer Purity · Polygonum-derived
Activate · Polyphenol

Trans-Resveratrol is a stilbenoid polyphenol produced by plants in response to stress. It is found in red grape skin, Japanese knotweed and peanuts. The trans-isomer is the biologically active form — Vitality provides Trans-Resveratrol at 98% trans-isomer purity at 600mg per serving.

It is one of the most extensively studied polyphenols in the published scientific literature and is paired with NMN in the NMN + Trans-Resveratrol 1100mg formula.
